Despite starring in some gigantic action movies and shows, like The Dark Knight Rises, Guy Ritchie’s MobLand, and Mad Max: Fury Road (to name just a few), there’s one thing Tom Hardy hasn’t done too many of: war movies. He appeared in two episodes of HBO’s Band of Brothers and the awful war movie, Deserter. But it wasn’t until 2017 that Tom Hardy made the leap to co-lead a full-blown, action-packed war film. And it wasn’t just any old war movie; it was directed by one of the greatest directors currently working, featured a stacked ensemble cast, and won three Oscars in the process.
