Certain books get multiple adaptations, and it’s something people just generally accept when those adaptations aren’t very good (you can never fully outweigh or delete the source material), but then also, it’s easy to celebrate when a second (or third) adaptation does things a little better than the first. With The Lord of the Rings, it’s probably not something that anyone will have to worry about, and the problem there would be the second adaptation (like, another film trilogy) doing things worse than the first time. But with Dune, there was one attempt at making a movie in 1984, and it didn’t go perfectly, so after a few decades had passed, that Frank Herbert book got another adaptation. Well, it technically got two movies, with that one adaptation being released in two parts, and those two movies are being counted separately below.
